New Release of WishList Member (v2.3)

The team at WishList Products is VERY excited to announce the release of version 2.3 of WishList Member.  It contains a variety of brand new features, upgrades, bug fixes and adjustments for WordPress 3.0 and we highly recommend you upgrade.

With that said, please note:

**You Will Need To Have PHP5 Installed On Your Server**

Most hosting companies have upgraded their servers to PHP5 but please double check with your hosting company before you upgrade.

Here are more insights regarding this release…

Download Instructions:

You can download the latest version of WishList Member from within your WishList Member Dashboard.  You will see a link to the latest version.

Here is a sample screenshot:

Best practices include…

1)  Deactivating WLM first (you’re settings won’t be lost).

2)  Unzip the WLM zip file.

3)  Upload the “wishlist-member” folder to your WP plugins folder.

This will overwrite the old version (don’t worry, your settings will still be there!).  If you’re uploading using an FTP program, make sure your “transfer type” settings are “Binary” and NOT “ASCII”.

4)  Then activate WLM in your plugins.

Looks like a pretty good update. Thanks!

  2. Brian Carter July 2, 2010 at 8:59 am #

That’s awesome but how do I download it?

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 10:38 am #

      Hey Brian,

I just added a screenshot here that will help.

You can download the latest version from within your WLM Dashboard.

      Hopefully that helps.

      Take care.

      Stu

For hostgator go to your admin cpanel and at the bottom left menu under ‘Account information’ click the View link beside Program Versions. All hostgator accounts use PHP v. 5.x now.

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 10:38 am #

Great tip Will – thanks for sharing.

  5. Ricki Steigerwald July 2, 2010 at 9:25 am #

Thanks for all the hard work. Here is one “smile and thumbs up” for Mailchimp integration and file protection. =-)

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 10:56 am #

Thanks Ricki – we figured you’d appreciate those :)

  6. AlexLeow July 2, 2010 at 9:27 am #

Is it only me that is dumb or is there a link somewhere to download Wishlist Member 2.3. I can’t find it. Please help me.

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 10:40 am #

      Hey Alex,

It’s my bad… I should have explained that you can download the latest version from within your WLM Dashboard.

I put a screenshot above to help.

      Take care.

  7. Damon Nelson July 2, 2010 at 9:29 am #

what are the actual instructions for upgrading?

I downloaded the zip file from the WL dashboard. NOW WHAT? just ftp it over the existing? will it overwrite my existing setup?

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 10:42 am #

      Damon,

Yes you just need to unzip the file and then upload the new wishlist-member folder into your WP plugins folder.

It will overwrite the old version accordingly (and your settings will remain).

Just make sure your server is running PHP5.

      Take care.

      Stu

    • Leon McKee July 2, 2010 at 10:49 am #

      Unzip and FTP over existing.

  8. David Risley July 2, 2010 at 9:46 am #

Great to see the product progressing. :-)

Quick question: Is the htaccess protection only for single files? Because I’d really like to see folder protection ala Amember.

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 10:55 am #

      David,

Thanks for the kudos – much appreciated.

The file protection is for files only which need to be uploaded through WP.

I’ll bring up your suggestion regarding the folders at our next dev meeting and we’ll see what we can do.

      All the best.

      Stu

  9. Robert July 2, 2010 at 9:47 am #

What about integration with iDevAffiliate for affiliate management, Authorize.net for payment processing, and BuddyPress for adding social network features? There has been talk about these for a very long time but haven’t heard anything lately? Any idea when these critical features will be coming?

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 10:46 am #

      Robert,

iDev is very close and will be released as a separate add-on as we are trying to keep the core of WLM lean.

Authorize.net will also likely be included in our next major release.

As far as BuddyPress integration goes, we actually have many customers already using the two together.

But if you have ideas for further integration then send them to our support desk and we’ll consider them for a future release.

      Take care.

      Stu

      • Robert July 2, 2010 at 12:08 pm #

I would also like to see support for Ultra Cart with full integration. A lot of people use that instead of 1ShoppingCart and Ultra Cart has an API you can easily tap into.

      • Ivan Blatter July 27, 2010 at 3:40 am #

        Hi Stu,

are there some news about the iDev-add-on? When will it released?

        Regards,
        Ivan

        • WPWL Team July 29, 2010 at 2:12 pm #

We are working on the iDev integration and hope to have it complete very soon. We have no firm release date at this time though.

  10. Mike Butler July 2, 2010 at 9:48 am #

Where do download the upgrade… i have clicked my ass off all over this site

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 10:47 am #

      Mike,

The download link is located in your WLM Dashboard.

I’ve put a screenshot above in the post to help.

      Take care.

      Stu

  11. Clive at BlogBriefing.com July 2, 2010 at 9:55 am #

I’m hosting with Heart Internet in the UK and in my Control Panel there you can switch between php4 and php5 with one click so that was easy to do. Great job on the WLM update BTW :-)

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 10:48 am #

      Clive,

Thanks for sharing – it’s good to know that it was that easy to upgrade :)

Most hosting companies are making it easy but one click is a snap!

      Cheers!

      Stu

  12. Lance Tamashiro July 2, 2010 at 10:01 am #

    Awesome job guys!

I love the new stuff in the API and
and the “ordering of levels” rocks.

Congrats on a great new release

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 10:49 am #

      Thanks Lance!

      Much appreciated.

You guys will have fun with all the new functions built into the API :)

Just keep us posted on what you guys end up doing!

      All the best.

      Stu

  13. Karrie Ross July 2, 2010 at 10:28 am #

My existing mailing list auto responders are with OneShoppingCart… is this integration now offered?… or will be soon?

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 10:50 am #

      Karrie,

We are limited in what we can do with the 1SC integration but we are working closely with their team on a number of things.

We use 1SC as well so we are looking to have deeper integration with them and will keep everyone posted if/when that happens.

      Take care.

      Stu

      • Karrie Ross July 2, 2010 at 10:53 am #

        Thanks Stu…
Will be installing today… it’s downloading now!

Good to hear about the API… I’m looking forward to the call

  14. Dave Jackson July 2, 2010 at 10:37 am #

Musicians are going to love the file protection. Very cool. You just killed amember with that feature.

  15. Jim July 2, 2010 at 10:44 am #

I can’t find the download either. Looked on the WLM dashboard too.

    • Jim July 2, 2010 at 11:06 am #

Got it, just missed it earlier, thanks for the screen shot.

  16. Christopher Lyon July 2, 2010 at 10:45 am #

Is there somewhere I can download the new version OTHER than through the dashboard. I could not ever get the old version to load with WP 3.0. Do you have a direct link?

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 11:23 am #

      Christopher,

The best way to get your direct download link is to email our support team.

They will then email your direct download link.

      Take care.

      Stu

  17. Josh July 2, 2010 at 10:53 am #

Would have been great if we could see a screencast of the new features as you’re talking about them.

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 11:11 am #

Josh – that is a good idea and we’ll likely do a free webinar for everyone to learn all about the new features.

      We’ll keep you posted.

      Take care.

      Stu

  18. Leon McKee July 2, 2010 at 10:53 am #

Thanks a million for the API Documents link in the dashboard!

    Leon McKee

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 11:09 am #

      Thanks Leon!

I know you’ll all the new functionality :)

  19. Scott Bolinger July 2, 2010 at 11:16 am #

Anybody else getting an error? (Yes, I have php5 enabled)

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_IF in /home/tamkaa/insideoutworkout.com/wp-content/plugins/wishlist-member/wpm.php(310) : eval()’d code(3) : eval()’d code on line 2

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 12:17 pm #

      Scott,

Double check your FTP settings and make sure they are set to “Binary” and NOT ASCII.

Another trick to try is actually uploading from within the “plugins” section in WordPress itself.

If you continue to have issues, send us a support ticket:

      http://wishlistproducts.zendesk.com/home

Our support team will be able to give you more detailed help regarding your particular situation.

      All the best,

      Stu

  20. Kevin Delaney July 2, 2010 at 11:25 am #

I downloaded the new version, and installed it in my “plugins” folder. Now when I log in to my dashboard, Wishlist Member is gone, and at the top of the page (and at several other places on the page) is this message:

    “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_IF in /home/content/72/4854372/html/wp-content/plugins/wishlist-member/wpm.php(310) : eval()’d code(3) : eval()’d code on line 2″

    What am I doing wrong?

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 12:19 pm #

      Hey Kevin,

I’ll give the same advice I gave Scott above.

It’s likely an issue with your FTP settings.

Double check your FTP settings and make sure they are set to “Binary” and NOT ASCII.

Another trick to try is actually uploading from within the “plugins” section in WordPress itself.

If you continue to have issues, send us a support ticket:

Our support team will be able to give you more detailed help regarding your particular situation.

      All the best,

    • Diane July 2, 2010 at 12:22 pm #

      Similar one for me = Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_IF in /home/xxnamexx/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wishlist-member/wpm.php(310) : eval()’d code(3) : eval()’d code on line 2

      off to support desk :)

      • Diane July 2, 2010 at 12:41 pm #

saw your ftp response Stu, after I’d posted my last message. All sorted now doesn’t like dreamweaver ftp – I zipped up wishlist member folder and unpacked on server cpanel. all seems fine now thanks.

  21. azeoeko July 2, 2010 at 11:44 am #

Thanks for the update but there is just one issue: When you click a members level, it does not just show the members in that section but every member from every section. Can you please fix this. Thanks

    Please see screen shot:

    Thanks

    • WPWL Team July 9, 2010 at 10:08 am #

This issue has been resolved with a bug fix version. If you upgrade to the newestv version of WishList Member (check your WL Dashboard for this) you shodl be all set!

Looks like dreamhost has php5. I just confirmed it.

  23. Rick Butts July 2, 2010 at 11:56 am #

Perhaps I’m a luddite, or maybe I’ve not had enough coffee, but do I just ftp the new WL plugin files to my site?

Won’t I over-write the configurations of my site by doing that?

Thanks for setting me straight. LOVE LOVE LOVE Wishlist and all the new features (and I still love the old one’s too 8-)

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 12:22 pm #

      Rick,

      Best practices include…

      1) Deactivating WLM first (you’re settings won’t be lost).

      2) Unzip the WLM zip file.

      3) Upload the “wishlist-member” folder to your WP plugins folder.

This will overwrite the old version (don’t worry, your settings will still be there!).

      4) Then activate WLM in your plugins.

      Hopefully that helps.

      Take care,

      Stu

      • Brett July 2, 2010 at 6:43 pm #

The settings are in the database, so there are not any files that need to be kept from the original old plug-in, correct? Delete/Replace.

  24. Chozen July 2, 2010 at 12:07 pm #

Where do I download the new API docs?

  25. Kim Nishida July 2, 2010 at 12:08 pm #

Loving the new features so far. Thanks so much. You guys are awesome!

    Kim

    • Stu McLaren July 2, 2010 at 12:58 pm #

Thanks Kim – we certainly appreciated the kudos :)

  26. Frederick Van Johnson July 2, 2010 at 1:26 pm #

Hey, this release couldn’t have come at a better time. We’re soft-launching our site this weekend with full launch coming next week!

Unfortunately, after confirming my PHP version (5.2.13), and replacing the old plug-in folder with the new one. Wishlist shows up in my plug-ins list as “activated”, but not in the WP dashboard sidebar… and all Wishlist functions are disabled on the site.

    Help?

    Frederick

    • WPWL Team July 2, 2010 at 2:12 pm #

      Frederick,

It’s probably best to send us a support ticket so we can take a closer look.

      Send a support ticket here:
      http://wishlistproducts.zendesk.com/home

Include your WP admin info and FTP info in that ticket – it will speed things up a bit.

      Take care,

      WLP Team

  27. Brett July 2, 2010 at 6:41 pm #

Fantastic upgrade! Thanks for listening to the users… Before taking the plunge or transitioning another site from amember: Does the file protection use htaccess? In other words, if we protect an MP3 file, will iTunes authenticate if we have a podcast setup on a particular category with protected uploads?

  28. Kevin Delaney July 2, 2010 at 9:06 pm #

FYI, I solved the problem I and several other have described above, by zipping the WishList file, uploading it, then unarchiving it on the server.

My FTP program (Fetch) apparently can’t unarchive a ZIP file, but I was able to log in to my hosting account and unarchive it there using the file manager function.

    I hope this helps someone!

    Kevin Delaney

  29. Doug Lampi July 2, 2010 at 9:35 pm #

Stu – you do a fantastic job speaking to the camera! I love your energy – and I love how you repeat the essentials for clarity! Great example of how to communicate with your membership!

  30. Chuck Reynolds July 3, 2010 at 5:13 am #

This version seems to be stable with WP3. Better late than never right? :)

    • Stu McLaren July 3, 2010 at 8:52 am #

      Chuck,

Yes it is stable with WP 3.0.

The reason we waited was because it made more sense to wrap all the updates into one release versus have two important releases back-to-back.

We had some final testing to do on a couple of our new features so we just figured hold off a week until everything is solid and that way people would only need to update once.

      • John July 7, 2010 at 10:49 am #

I had issues with the update until I updated to WP 3.0.

  31. Pat & Lorna Shanks July 3, 2010 at 6:02 am #

    Hey Stu & WishList Team,

Great job on this release of V2.3. We love the new features 1) file protection, 2) Moving membership levels.

Little disappoint that we didn’t see better integration with 1shoppingcart, but as you stated there might be more to come.

Also found it interesting that it wasn’t V3.x…

So when are we going to see the new COOL and really improved and enhance features in V3.x.

    Thanks for all you do,
    ~ Pat & Lorna
    http://TheCoolestCouple.com

    • Stu McLaren July 3, 2010 at 8:50 am #

      Pat and Lorna,

The 1SC release is actually out of our hands at the moment.

We have completed everything we can up to this point but 1SC is in the midst of reworking their recurring payment engine.

Rest assured however, we are working close with them and are beta testing their revamp.

Hopefully we’ll have something soon but it’s a waiting game for all of us at this point.

      Take care,

      Stu

  32. John Morris July 3, 2010 at 8:33 am #

@Brett The file protection does use .htaccess. I’m not familiar with how iTunes and podcasts works, so I can’t answer that, but, again, the file protection does use .htaccess

@Pat and Lorna We actually considered making this a 3.0 version, but we thought that might confuse people new to WordPress and WLM. So, we decided to stick with 2.3. Which just means that by the time we get to 3.0… WLM will be just that much cooler. ;)

  33. Pete Pasierb July 3, 2010 at 10:49 am #

Just upgraded but still have the problem of not being able to filter by membership level on the members page. Filtering oalso does not work when exporting – jus exports all members whatever the requested level is. Is this jusy my problem or have others reported it?

    • WPWL Team July 8, 2010 at 2:13 pm #

We just released a fix for this issue. It is Build 586 and it should appear in your Dashboard to download and apply. Sometimes a Dashbaord will take a day to update so if you need the version right away, you can submit a ticket requesting it.

  34. Liz Baird July 3, 2010 at 2:34 pm #

I have noticed that the wishlist widget control plugin does not work in this release. Is there a new version of that plugin coming out?

    • WPWL Team July 8, 2010 at 2:16 pm #

We have not heard of any issues with the WL Widget Control widget not working with the new release. If you are haing issues, please submit a ticket and the ticket team can investigate for you.

  35. Jeff July 3, 2010 at 8:03 pm #

Does this version have integration with vBulletin or any of the other forum packages?

    • WPWL Team July 6, 2010 at 1:41 pm #

There are no direct integrations, but you can work with existing forums and WishList Member. We have SimplePress running on http://www.wishlistinsider.com currently.

  36. Norman Freeman July 4, 2010 at 10:38 am #

    Hey Stu,

Rock’n'Roll about the API! Very elegant! :)

Will now look at WLM again for using it with Infusionsoft, which was not really smoothly possible in the past and made me use a different solution.

Wish you ALL THE BEST Stu!

    Norman

    P.S: 4:0 against Argentina!! It’s coming home… It’s coming home… Football’s coming home (to GERMANY! ;) )!

  37. Jennifer Fong July 5, 2010 at 10:29 am #

I’m trying to upload the new version and am running into problems. I have tried to do so via the plugins feature of WP (uploading the zip file directly) as you suggest above. Here’s the message I get:

    Destination folder already exists. /home3/jenfongs/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wishlist-member/

    Plugin Install Failed.

    What am I doing wrong?

    • WPWL Team July 6, 2010 at 1:43 pm #

Have you tried uploading via an FTP program like Filezilla? Please feel free to submit a ticket if the problem persists.

      • Phil J Forsey July 7, 2010 at 12:58 pm #

Yes, we unzipped, made sure FTP set to Binary and overwrote the wishlist-member file using filezilla.
        I’ll submit a ticket. Thanks.

        • WPWL Team July 9, 2010 at 10:06 am #

It does sound like a setting issue that can be cleared up through the ticket that you submitted.

    • WPWL Team July 8, 2010 at 2:18 pm #

Have you tried using an FTP program like Filezilla? You can download this for free here: http://filezilla-project.org/ Be sure to upload WishList Member in BINARY mode.

  38. Georgina July 5, 2010 at 11:10 am #

Hi there, i just received a new update within wordpress , clicked on it downloaded it and overwrote the old files. Now once you click on a membership level………… It is blank, I cannot see any of my members. What changed.

    Thanks

    • WPWL Team July 8, 2010 at 2:19 pm #

We just released a fix for this issue. It is Build 586 and it should appear in your Dashboard to download and apply. Sometimes a Dashbaord will take a day to update so if you need the version right away, you can submit a ticket requesting it.

  39. Georgina July 5, 2010 at 2:09 pm #

Why are you canceling my comments. i asked for help earlier and you deleted it? Why ?????

    • WPWL Team July 8, 2010 at 2:20 pm #

Sorry for any confusion Georgina. Comments need to be approved and we just approved your last comment and replied to it.

  40. Nick July 6, 2010 at 12:45 pm #

i have deactivated the old version, then when uploading the new folder into the plugins page the error i get is,

    “Unpacking the package…

    Installing the plugin…

    Destination folder already exists. ….
    Plugin install failed.”

    am i missing something here?

  41. Nick July 6, 2010 at 12:48 pm #

i recently submitted a post about an error that i get when uploading the new version.

after actually deleting the wishlist member plugin then uploading the correct version, it worked and the old key and email had been saved.

deactivating didnt seem to be enough

    • WPWL Team July 6, 2010 at 1:42 pm #

Sometimes a complete delete and re-upload is needed if all the files weren’t successfully uploaded the 1st time.

  42. kriss July 6, 2010 at 8:05 pm #

    hi there.

I’ve done the upgrade, but i no longer get any form of WL products menu in the sidebar of the WP dashboard… how do I configure WL member now??

    • WPWL Team July 9, 2010 at 10:07 am #

You should be able to view the WL Products option in the WP sidebar. If you do not see it, this suggests an issue with the upload of WishList Member. We recommend a re-instal. If you continue to have an issue, please feel free to submit a ticket.

      • Kriss July 13, 2010 at 2:57 am #

OK – have deleted all files and re-installed. also updated WP to 3.0.

WL member comes up in my list of plugins and I can activate it, but nothing happens after that (the usual WLmember menu doesn’t come up in the sidebar).

        • WPWL Team July 14, 2010 at 11:39 am #

This sounds like an issue with the install. If you have been sure to set your FTP program to “BINARY” and this issue remains, please submit a ticket and we can look into this further for you.

  43. Gary July 7, 2010 at 2:08 am #

    Hi,

My boss just bought this plugin yesterday (July6), so are the new features included?

Yes, the new features will be included. Keep an eye on the WL Dashboard for when new versions are released as well to keep up to date :)

    Hi Stu and WL Team,

Thanks for update 2.3 – fantastic!

I’m trying to find documentation on the “Registration E-Mail Confirmation” function. We’d like to make this work for email confirmation/confirmed opt-in, but I can’t seem to turn it on. Are those merge codes only provided to be added to the regular registration email? Does this confirmation actually restrict registration until confirmation has occurred?

    Thanks so much for WLM!

    - Nate

We have not completed documentation on this feature yet, but if you set this feature to be ON in the Membership Levels tab, it will require a Member to opt-in using an email that is automatically sent to them upon registration. They will NOT be granted access until they opt-in through the email that is sent.

We’ve not been able to restrict access using this feature. However, we’re going to try a new install with only WLM to eliminate all possibilities of a conflict.

    Stu and Team
We are getting our site ready to launch. Heres what we’re running-WishList Member v2.30 | Build 582 | WordPress 3.0 | PHP 5.2.13
After Login, regardless of what page we set it to in admin, can’t get it to go to a different page than what we had before upgrading. Anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks.

I uploaded the files into my godaddy hosted wordpress installation only to later discover that godaddy has php 4.3. Now my site won’t load up at all. What should I do? Why wouldn’t godaddy have php5? As soon as I overwrote the old WLM files, the rest of the site stopped working all together. http://www.AmazingSystemTraining.com

You can remove WishList Member and then request GoDaddy to upgrade to php5. Once this has happened, you can re-upload WishList Member.

Thanks so much! That worked perfectly. I had no idea that I just needed to change my settings within godaddy to get php5. Thanks again!

Glad it worked out for you, @Dave!

Where do we find the list of new features?

Since the update occurred, I have dozens of members complaining that:

    A) their site is being redirected to “mywebsearch.com”

    B) when they solve this issue, they get a blank page when they visit rockstartriathlete.com

When the wishlist plugin is disabled, these problems go away. Please advise!

This is a very unique case and a ticket has been opened for this issue. You will hear back from the Ticket Team soon.
