We have wrapped up the initial development process and our team is now focused on the official release of WishList Member 3.0.
In order to help everyone be prepared for the change, we created a video with a more in depth look at the all new interface of WishList Member.
Be on the lookout for our official announcement next week.
WishList Member 3.0 is right around the corner and we wanted to answer some questions our customers have been asking.
The video below touches on a number of different topics and we feel it helps give an overview of what to expect.
Our Team is working hard to get WishList Member 3.0 ready for the release and we will be sharing more information soon.
We’ve been hinting at the release of WishList Member 3.0 for quite some time now.
This is without a doubt the biggest change to WishList Member we’ve ever had. Consequently, the development has taken us more time than we originally expected.
We started on the project over two years ago. This has definitely been our primary focus in terms of development and we’re getting very close to an official release.
As we started the project, we recognized very quickly that after 10 years of adding features here and there, we needed to rebuild the foundation of WishList Member. This was important for two reasons. First, we wanted the set up and implementation of new membership sites to be significantly easier for new users. We also needed to give ourselves the necessary framework to add significant feature enhancements moving forward.
After using WishList Member 3.0 ourselves for several months we started giving private demos to a small set of people. Our initial feedback has been tremendous and we’re ready to move to the next level.
Here is the first look video:
Our roll out plans include having a thorough BETA testing phase so we need your help.
We need as many people as possible to test WishList Member 3.0 BETA before we roll out the official release.
We are looking for WishList Member customers of all skill levels for the BETA test phase.
The two main qualifications for the WishList Member 3.0 BETA test program are:
- You must have a valid WishList Member license key.
- You must have an active Support and Update Plan.
It’s extremely important to note:
- WishList Member 3.0 BETA should NOT be used on a live site.
- It is intended to ONLY be used in a testing environment.
If you want to be a part of the WishList Member 3.0 BETA team you can sign up by clicking on the link below. (You will need your WishList Member license key).
We want to say thanks in advance to anyone who is ready to help us push through and get closer to our official release.
We will be sharing more news with you very soon.
We recently posted some information about how WishList Member is affected by WordPress version 4.3.
As it turns out, there are more changes in WordPress 4.3 that affect WishList Member than we originally expected. One of these WordPress 4.3 changes is quite significant to anyone running WishList Member and it has to do with adding new users to a WordPress site.
Without getting too technical, WordPress 4.3 returns a different response when adding a new user than previous versions of WordPress. This means that WishList Member will no longer allow new users to be added to a site that is running WordPress 4.3, which results in registrations not being successful.
But do not worry because we have already created a fix for the problem for all WishList Member users. How you apply this fix will depend on when you purchased a WishList Member license or renewal, as that will determine which version of WishList Member you can use. Continue Reading →
There are currently over 60 million people powering their websites with WordPress.
You can be certain of one thing if you happen to be one of those people. There will be WordPress updates and there will be a lot of them.
Any system that grows to the size of WordPress will be subject to security updates and feature enhancements on a regular basis. This is a contributing factor to how WordPress has achieved their high level of success.
An automatic update feature was included back when WordPress 3.7 was released. This means when a stable release of WordPress is ready, it gets automatically pushed out to all sites running WordPress 3.7 or higher and updates the site to the new version.
This is a good thing in most cases. However, in some situations the automatic upgrade can create potential incompatibilities with other plugins or themes that may be running on the same site. It is up to the plugin or theme developers to fix the issue in order to correct the incompatibility.
The latest version of WordPress 4.3 is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, August 18, 2015.
There is one significant change in the upcoming version that will affect the majority of membership site owners. This change has to do with the way that WordPress deals with lost passwords and resetting a password.
Prior to this upcoming update, a user could use the Lost Password feature and the WordPress system would send an email that contained a link that could be used to reset the password. In the upcoming new version, the link to update the password will have an expiration.
This means the Lost Password link can only be used for a set amount of time. This is definitely a good idea and will add an additional layer of security.
However, this new feature will cause the Lost Password feature to not function with the majority of membership plugins until the plugin developers provide a fix for the incompatibility.
WishList Member has already fixed this issue in our current version (2.9) and we have also gone back and created an update for the last major numbered version (2.8) as well.
Anyone running the latest version of WishList Member 2.9 or 2.8 should not experience any issues with the Lost Password feature. You can check to see if you are running the latest version of WishList Member on your site’s WishList Member dashboard.
Note that if you are using WishList Member 2.7 or earlier there will be a problem with the Lost Password feature when your site is updated to WordPress 4.3
These older versions of WishList Member are over four years old and have reached their end of life for updates. If you are running WishList Member 2.7 or older and the Lost Password feature is important to you, then you will want to look into purchasing a WishList Member renewal in order to upgrade to WishList Member 2.9
If you choose not to upgrade WishList Member from 2.7 or older, you can consider disabling the WordPress automatic update feature. But please note that this is not recommended.
WordPress has provided information on how to turn off automatic updates in their “Definitive guide to disabling auto updates in WordPress 3.7”
We hope this helps to explain the upcoming WordPress 4.3 update and how it will affect the Lost Password functionality of your membership site.
